THE MAR MENOR AREA (Costa Calida)The Mar Menor is the worlds largest lagoon and sits in the southeast of Murcia. It is a shallow pool of 170 square km with warm waters and gentle winds. It is known to be one of the best places in Europe to learn water sports. The Mar Menor is separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow strip of land only 22km wide, called La Manga del Mar Menor. The area offers a diverse selection of activities for the visitor and resident alike including all manor of water sports, hiking, hill-climbing, golf and much more.
There are sand dunes, beaches, salt-water lagoons, mud flats... the Murcia coastline includes numerous places of unquestionable interest to the naturalist. Not surprisingly many of these have been declared Protected Natural Areas, one of which is Calblanque, which has many kilometers of completely unspoilt beaches and soaring cliffs.
